Job summary

Weis Markets is seeking a Deli Associate at our Reading, PA location. You will stock service areas, greet customers, and prepare meats, cheeses, and ready-to-eat foods per customer orders.

You will operate slicing equipment, package items, and maintain cleanliness and safety standards throughout the department. The role involves cash register duties, following company policies on money handling, and complying with tobacco and alcohol sale regulations.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience Completed or working towards a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Keeps Deli service areas well stocked and appealing to meet customer demands. Smiles and greets customers, answers questions and helps resolve concerns promptly.
• Ensures freshness and condition of merchandise and correct signs; properly rotates product and handles spoiled or near-expiration items per procedures.
• Operates slicing equipment to prepare meats and cheeses according to customer preferences; packages items with price/weight/date labels; prepares platters and ready-to-eat foods.
• Follows recipes and safety policies when preparing food items.
• May operate cash register and handle money according to policies; adheres to laws on tobacco and alcohol sales.
• Maintains sanitation; follows cleaning schedules and health/OSHA requirements; disposes of trash properly.
• Assists in inventory control, returns products to refrigeration, logs activities, and minimizes losses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Keeps Deli service areas well stocked and appealing at all times to meet customer demands. Smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions and helps resolve customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner.
• Ensures freshness and condition of merchandise in display cases along with proper prices and correct signs. Properly rotates product. Handles spoiled or damaged products or products close to expiration according to company procedures and standards.
• Operates slicing equipment to provide meats and cheeses based on customer preferences. Packages items and applies sticker showing price, weight, and date. Prepares ready-to-eat foods to individual order of customers. Prepares platters of sliced meats, cheeses and vegetable trays. Also requires safe use of knives/kitchen utensils.
• Adheres to company recipes and safety policies when preparing food such as chicken, pizza, sandwiches, salads and other various hot or cold food items.
• May operate and be responsible for cash register operations. Follows policies and procedures to ensure proper money handling to avoid cash overages or shortages. Adheres to company and state laws related to tobacco and alcohol sales.
• Responsible for general sanitation in the department. Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Disposes of trash properly.
• Assists in inventory control through time and temperature practices. Minimizes losses by returning products to refrigeration, properly handling products, keeping necessary logs and following company recipes.
• May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained. Training provided.
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack (if properly trained - training provided).
• Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors. Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
• Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). Including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear, etc.
• May also be called upon to assist in other departments.
