Job summary

SpartanNash in Madison, Wisconsin seeks a Deli Manager to lead day-to-day department operations in a retail store, ensuring staff are trained, the department is well staffed, and goals and KPIs are met.

You will order and manage inventory, supervise staff, ensure food safety and quality, follow schedules and use our tools, participate in meetings, and maintain a clean, well-stocked department under Our Winning Recipe and People First culture.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate (Required) or Equivalent (GED).
  • Two years of retail experience preferred.
  • One-year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and bookkeeping skills.
  • Good organization, prioritization, decision-making, problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities with capability to work in a hands-on environment.
  • Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
  • Good knowledge of retail store operations; knowledge of retail management systems.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Spanish language skills are highly desirable depending on location.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible to order and maintain inventory in your department, while utilizing inventory control procedures to ensure product freshness and quality.
  • Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count or weight, condition, and ensure all product is stored in appropriate areas.
  • Manage a team that completes stocking, production, and related tasks to ensure quality, planning, and rotation.
  • Maintain familiarity with all products carried in the department and store.
  • Know advertised items and store sales and rewards programs.
  • Communicate and execute weekly and period Flight Plans to company standards.
  • Follow company policies and timelines using scheduling and payroll tools.
  • Implement and monitor schedules, labor control, overtime control, and payroll expenses.
  • Lead department staffing, training, performance management, and career development.
  • Develop department goals and forecasts, and participate in daily huddles and meetings.
  • Maintain a clean, well-stocked department and ensure food safety and safety compliance.
