Job summary

Hy-Vee, Inc. seeks a Delicatessen Clerk to safely handle food, keep the area clean, and provide friendly, efficient service at the counter and throughout the store.

You will run registers, receive payments, make change, and help customers with orders while promoting a positive store image. Primary duties include stocking, product replenishment, freshness checks, following sanitation procedures, and supporting team members in a fast-paced environment to ensure a smooth, friendly shopping

Qualifications

• Must be able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
• Must be able to solve arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
• Less than high school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Must be able to physically perform medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call including taking customer orders.
• Takes customer orders at the delicatessen counter.
• Reviews orders for the day.
• Repairs freshness and quality checks of food items.
• Maintains sanitation and clean work area; follows department guidelines.
