Position Objective: To produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in all aspects of the deli to ensure a high standard of product and service for Cosentino's customers.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Deli Manager.

Status: Non-exempt position.

Knowledge

The following are required certifications, education, or training:

  • A food handling permit obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Completion of ongoing training as per Cosentino's Learning Plan.
  • At least one year of cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet setting.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in deli or food service production.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines.

Preferred but not required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills & Job Functions

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Collaborate with the manager to develop menu items.
  • Practice proper portion control and food safety standards.
  • Ensure all foods meet safety, health, sanitation, and quality standards.
  • Supervise and motivate kitchen team members.
  • Maintain positive team environment and high morale.
  • Train and manage part-time cooks.
  • Communicate clearly about resources and team needs.
  • Manage inventory, rotation, and product quality.
  • Provide excellent customer service and handle complaints professionally.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely.
  • Follow recipes, menus, promotions, and standards.
  • Demonstrate basic math and reading skills.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare, package, and label products accurately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of coolers and work areas.
  • Unload shipments and stock supplies.
  • Support additional tasks and cross-store duties as needed.
Physical Abilities

Essential Abilities:

  • Reaching, twisting, lifting up to 20 lbs regularly, and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing, walking, bending, squatting, and working in cold environments.

Non-Essential Abilities:

  • Climbing ladders up to 5 feet.
