Cook Position

Objective

To produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in all aspects of the deli to ensure a team that consistently delivers high-quality products and service to Cosentino’s customers.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Deli Manager.

Status

Non-exempt position.

Knowledge
Essential Knowledge
  • Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Complete ongoing training as outlined in Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
  • Minimum of one year of cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in deli or food service production.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines.
Non-Essential Knowledge
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Skills and Job Functions
  • Develop daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items with management.
  • Practice proper portion control and ensure all foods meet safety, health, sanitation, and quality standards.
  • Enforce quality control for all deli products.
  • Supervise kitchen team members effectively, fostering a positive and respectful environment.
  • Train and manage part-time cooks.
  • Communicate clearly about resources and team needs.
  • Maintain inventory, monitor product rotation, and ensure product knowledge to assist customers.
  • Meet productivity standards and promote sales through suggestive selling and samples.
  • Handle customer complaints professionally and follow Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Operate and maintain equipment safely.
  • Follow recipes, menus, and promotional standards.
Physical Abilities
  • Reaching, twisting, lifting up to 20 lbs regularly, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Working in cold environments like coolers and freezers.
Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: At least 1 year in frying, grilling, and fast food/casual dining cooking. Preferred experience includes cooking, grilling, and frying various foods.
