Cook
Position Objective: To produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in all aspects of the deli to ensure a Deli team that delivers the product and service customers expect.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Deli Manager.
Status: Non-exempt position.
Knowledge
The following are certifications, education, or training requirements:
Essential Knowledge
- A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
- Completion of ongoing training as per Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
- At least one year of cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation.
- At least 6 months experience in a deli or food service production facility.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines.
Non-Essential Knowledge
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Skills
Essential Job Functions
- Collaborate with the department manager to develop menu items.
- Practice appropriate portion control.
- Ensure all foods are prepared following safety, health, sanitation guidelines, and standards.
- Maintain quality control of all deli products.
- Supervise kitchen team members effectively and respectfully.
- Foster a positive team environment with cooperation and recognition.
- Train, direct, and manage part-time cooks.
- Communicate clearly regarding resources and team needs.
- Manage inventory, monitor product dates, and rotate stock properly.
- Be knowledgeable about department items to assist customers.

- Promote sales through suggestive selling and samples.
- Handle customer complaints professionally.
- Implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
- Operate, clean, and maintain equipment safely.
- Follow recipes, menus, promotions, and standards.
- Demonstrate basic math and reading skills.

- Prepare, package, and label products efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of coolers, freezers, and prep areas.
- Unload shipments and stock merchandise properly.
- Support additional tasks and cross-departmental needs.
Physical Abilities
Essential Abilities
- Reach overhead up to 74 inches, twist, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Push and pull items up to 50 lbs.
- Stand and walk for long periods on hard surfaces.
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Bend and squat to floor level.
- Work in colder conditions of coolers and freezers.
Non-Essential Abilities
- Climb a ladder up to 5 feet.
