Position Objective: To produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in all aspects of the deli to ensure a Deli team that delivers the product and service Cosentino’s customers expect.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Deli Manager.
Status: Non-exempt position.
Knowledge
Essential Knowledge:
- A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
- Completion of ongoing training as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
- Minimum of one year of cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation.
- Minimum of 6 months experience in deli or food service production.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines.
Non-Essential Knowledge:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Skills and Job Functions
- Collaborate with the department manager to develop menu items.
- Practice appropriate portion control.
- Prepare foods in accordance with safety, health, sanitation guidelines, and high-quality standards.
- Enforce quality control of all deli products.
- Supervise kitchen team members effectively and respectfully.
- Promote a positive team atmosphere with cooperation and recognition.
- Train, direct, and manage part-time cooks.
- Communicate clearly with team members about resources and needs.
- Manage inventory, monitor product dates, and ensure proper rotation.
- Answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards.
- Promote sales through suggestions and samples.
- Handle customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
- Follow Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
- Operate, clean, and maintain equipment safely.
- Follow recipes, menus, promotions, and standards.
- Demonstrate basic math and reading skills.
Physical Abilities
Essential Abilities:
- Reaching overhead up to 74 inches, twisting, and lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
- Pushing and pulling items up to 50 lbs.
- Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Bending, squatting, and working in cold conditions.
Non-Essential Abilities: Climbing ladders up to 5 ft.
