Job summary

United Natural Foods, Inc. in Laurel, MD is seeking a deli team member to provide direct, prompt customer service and assist guests in selecting fresh meats, cheeses, salads, bakery items and hot foods from the deli department.

You will slice, weigh, label and wrap products, maintain sanitation, monitor temperatures, replenish stock, and ensure food safety throughout shifts. Flexibility for nights, weekends and holidays is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to solve arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Must be able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, request supplies orally or in writing.
• Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance >20 inches and <20 feet, color vision, depth perception and field of vision.
• Must have the ability to handle refrigerated and frozen levels of temperature when retrieving product from freezer.
• Must be able to participate in preparing salads, sandwiches, fried chicken, fish, etc.
• Must be able to safely operate a slicer and fryer for the production of sliced meats and cheeses and fried foods.
• Must be able to work shifts varying in length and times, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
• Answers the department telephone promptly and provides friendly service to callers.
• Takes customer orders at the deli counter, slices product, weighs, labels and wraps items.
• Reviews orders for the day and processes accordingly.
• Maintains sanitation and keeps work area clean.
• Monitors temperatures of hot and cold units for proper holding.
• Anticipates department product needs daily.
• Prepares, finishes, and replenishes product as necessary.
• Checks in product, inventories, and may review invoices.
• Cleans all equipment in the deli/bakery daily.
• Ensures proper inventory control (pricing, stocking, ordering).
• Ensures food handling complies with local health regulations.
• Performs other duties as required.
