Position Objective

To assist customers in their shopping experience by producing the highest quality deli product possible and delivering courteous, efficient service to all deli customers.

Reporting Structure

This position formally reports to the Deli Manager.

Status

This is a non-exempt position.

Knowledge

Essential Knowledge

• A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
• Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino's Learning Plan.

Non-Essential Knowledge

• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Skills

Essential Job Functions

• Efficiently and accurately prepare, package and label products for sale to customers.
• Know and practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service.
• Practice effective inventory management by counting and verifying merchandise against invoices and inspecting deliveries for shortages, damages and quality.
• Know and practice rotation procedures to ensure product dates are properly monitored.
• If performing the duties of cook, know how to prepare and cook all deli hot foods, and set up the hot case for presentation.
• Prepare all cold deli items.
• Ensure all coolers, freezers, and preparation areas are clean and ready for deliveries.
• Unload incoming shipments quickly and stock them neatly without damaging merchandise.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards to achieve team and individual results.
• Be familiar with department items to answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
• Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
• Implement Cosentino's Customer Service Standards.
• Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
• Comply with health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures, encouraging team compliance.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive interactions.
• Possess basic math and reading skills required for the role.

Non-Essential Job Functions

• Promote sales through suggestive selling and samples.
• Create appealing display cases to promote and showcase high-quality items.
• Support additional tasks as directed by management and assist other departments as needed.

Physical Abilities

Essential Abilities

• Reaching overhead up to 74 inches, twisting at the waist, lifting objects up to 5 lbs with both hands.
• Pushing and pulling items up to 10 lbs.
• Standing and walking on hard surfaces for extended periods.
• Occasionally lifting up to 35 lbs.
• Bending and squatting to floor level.
• Working in colder conditions in coolers and freezers.
