Canyon Market is hiring Deli Clerks to deliver exceptional service and quality products. You will handle in-person and phone inquiries, prep sandwiches, and ensure the deli area remains clean and well-stocked.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or be a candidate with prior food/retail experience, and be able to lift and stand for long periods. Evening/weekend availability is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or candidate; prior experience in food and wine service, retail, preparation, or manufacturing preferred.
• Strong product knowledge and customer service focus.
• Ability to lift 15–50 lbs; stand/walk for shifts; flexible schedule incl. evenings/weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are now hiring Deli Clerks that can provide exceptional service and quality products for our customers. Focus and attention to detail are key.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent, friendly and knowledgeable customer service both in-person and over the phone. It is our job to make sure the customer leaves satisfied, so great customer service is a MUST.
• Prepares sandwiches, hot and cold deli food for sale to customers.
• Maintains extensive knowledge of daily product offerings including ingredients and preparation methods.
• Ensure cleanliness of deli case, storage, and work area. Keep a clean and sanitary work station at all times and all equipment clean and sanitized.
• Stock deli case properly making sure the products are presented well, the case is faced and filled at all times.
• Take instruction, direction, and follow procedures provided by our deli manager.
• Safely operate and use equipment such as knives, wrappers, scales, as well as other equipment.
• Examine the deli case daily for products that are spoiled and/or damaged. Maintain orderly rotation of stock.
• Ensure tag and pricing accuracy.
• Keep accurate spoilage, transfer and demolition logs.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a sense of urgency while still maintaining great customer service and accuracy.
• Must be able to communicate with customers who speak only English.
• Ability to work independently as well as within a large team.
• Committed to providing quality goods, championing local purveyors, and advocating for environmental stewardship.
• A sense of humor and the ability to find fulfillment in engaging with customers.
• Must be able to regularly and safely lift objects greater than 25 pounds unassisted.
• Able to stand all day while frequently bending and twisting, occasionally kneeling/squatting, and regular light to moderate lifting.
• Open schedule is preferred, evenings, weekends and holidays are a must.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Educational/Experience Requirements: High school diploma or/degree candidate and prior experience in food and wine service, retail, preparation, or manufacturing. Interest in and knowledge of sandwich making, cheese and charcuterie preferred.
• Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be continuously carrying/transporting of loads between 15-50 lbs.; intermittent standing, walking, bending reaching, sitting and occasionally climbing, stooping, twisting and fine manipulation. Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat and water with rare exposure to dust and fumes. Use of machinery including, but not limited to, dollies, espresso machine, coffee maker, meat slicers, cash registers, computers, printers and other office equipment.
• Skill Requirements: Thorough product knowledge; broad customer and team communication skills; retail/business understanding and experience, including time management, self-motivation, organizational and problem-solving abilities and professional demeanor and appearance; and commitment to quality food, wine and customer service.
• Language Requirements: English language and professional communication skills are required.
• Hours and Days Required: Full or part-time, flexible schedule is necessary with work days determined by business needs.
• Attendance Requirements: Excellent attendance and punctuality is required, with schedule flexibility determined by business needs.
