DELI CLERK

PURPOSE STATEMENT

To maximize sales and profit in the Deli Department through courteous customer service.

SIGNIFICANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Greet all customers, respond to questions/requests, and explain store policies courteously.
2. Wrap, package, and sell products like sandwiches, pizza, salads, fruits, meats, cheese, desserts, and party trays.
3. Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash register, scanner, and scale.
4. Review the Communication Board daily for updates and follow guidelines for sampling and announcements.
5. Prepare and organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receiving merchandise, verify deliveries, inspect for damages, and code-date items.
6. Adhere to health codes and regulations; clean department areas and equipment safely.
7. Transport cases to sales floor or storage, open cases, and stock/display products with proper rotation.
8. Ensure safety by following store safety rules and reporting hazards immediately.
9. Operate equipment like balers, slicers, scales, fryers, and more, following safety requirements.
10. Evaluate product quality, handle damaged or unsalable items, and adjust pricing as needed.
11. Monitor and record temperatures of cases and freezers four times daily.
12. Record out-of-stock conditions and report to management.
13. Stock and rotate display cases and shelves throughout the store.
14. Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors to ensure customer service during peak times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

1. Basic math skills and ability to count.
2. Ability to give and receive complex verbal instructions.
3. Stable work and educational history.
4. Ability to read and write English; interpret instructions and labels.
5. Judgment skills for product placement, display, and ordering.
6. Ability to open cases without damage.
7. Capable of clearly pricing and labeling products.
8. Good interpersonal communication skills.

PREFERRED:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Prior related work experience.
3. Experience operating equipment like slicers, balers, fryers, etc. (must be 18+ for certain equipment).

TASKS OF THE JOB

This position generally requires mobility, physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, reach, climb, and handle various equipment and products. It involves working on tile or concrete floors, handling cash and vouchers, and maintaining a safe, clean work environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Inside work with temperature variations, dust, and humidity from back doors, compressors, coolers, and freezers.
