What is the DEP?

The Delayed Entry Program allows you to apply for an uncleared armed security officer position while still in school. You'll undergo a comprehensive pre-employment screening, including:



  • In-person interview
    * Physical fitness test
    * Drug/medical screening
    * Psychological evaluation
    * Background investigation for Top Secret clearance


Qualified candidates will enter the DEP and begin working as uncleared armed officers on a limited basis (minimum one 4-hour shift per week) while you undergo a Single Scope Background Investigation for a national security clearance. (*SSBI estimates are between 6-12 months)



You must be available to attend a 3-week paid training academy during your summer break! Pay during training is $24.85.


Minimum Requirements:

  1. U.S. Citizen
    2. High School Diploma or GED
    3. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English
    4. At least 21 years of age
    5. Valid U.S. state-issued driver's license
    6. No domestic violence convictions (Lautenberg compliance)


Work Schedule:

You'll be assigned one weekly 4-hour shift (excluding holidays) for a minimum of one year.


Available shift blocks (Monday-Friday):
* 6:30 AM - 10:30 AM
* 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM
* 2:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Post-Clearance Opportunities

Upon receiving your Top-Secret clearance, you'll be promoted to a full-time, cleared Armed Security Protective Officer (SPO) position in Northern Virginia. Pay is currently $42.66/hour + $4.23 Health & Welfare.



Duty Locations:
* Fort Belvoir, VA
* Chantilly, VA



Physical Requirements



Heavy work: Exerting up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.



  • Must have visual and audio acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, machines such as fire equipment and apparatuses, firearms and clearing barrels.

  • Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

  • May be required to be fitted for and/or wear a respirator.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, often without breaks, and may be required to climb stairs or ladders and walk-up inclines and on uneven terrain.
