Job summary

Minneapolis Institute of Art is seeking a DEI Specialist to advance inclusion, excellence, and sustainability through strategic community partnerships and programs. Reporting to Mia's Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, you will build durable relationships with community organizations, design engagement strategies, and translate insights into actionable programs.

Required: 3–5 years in community engagement and project management, Bachelor’s degree, strong communication and analytical skills;

Job description

DEI Specialist - Community Partnerships & Programs
Salary- $34.00/hour ($66,300 annual)

The DEI Specialist - Community Partnerships and Programs plays a critical role in advancing Mia's strategic priorities of inclusion, excellence, and sustainability. Working with and reporting to Mia's Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer (CDIO) and a member of the DEI Department Team, this position will build and strengthen lifelong community partnerships, working with community-based organizations to advance Mia's mission and ensure DEI strategies are implemented with both impact and accountability, and is responsible for analysis around the programs.

What You Will Do:

Community Engagement and Partnership Development

  • Work with Mia's CDIO and staff on opportunities to integrate partner organizations into Mia programs and events
  • Build strong relationships by identifying, establishing, and maintaining trusted partnerships with community organizations and public stakeholders
  • Develop and implement DEI partnership engagement strategies, initiatives, events and scalable programs that cultivate community relationships and ongoing connection with Mia
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute events for the community partners and Mia based on exhibitions and other partnerships Act as the liaison between Mia and external partners ensuring community voices and perspectives are integrated into institutional projects
  • Proactively research prospect community organizations, identify Mia community engagement opportunities

Project and Data Insights

  • Translate strategies into project plans with operational tactics, milestones, achievable timelines, accountabilities, and metrics
  • Create meaningful Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and leverage analytics to develop more impactful community engagement strategies by collecting, evaluating, and reporting on KPI goal progress and impact
  • Implement and maintain accurate information into Salesforce or other project management and/or CRM databases
  • Contribute to DEI strategy by incorporating community perspectives and partner insights into planning and evaluation
  • Analyze data to identify trends in community engagement and program reach; recommend improvements
  • Conduct research on DEI benchmarks, best practices, and regulatory requirements

Administrative Support and Internal Partnership Engagement

  • Provide peer and back-up support to the CDIO's Executive Assistant and DEI Coordinator
  • Promote Mia's mission and organizational commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
To Be Successful You Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience in community engagement, partnership development programs, and project management
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, presentation and facilitation
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Collaborator with experience in change management, problem-solving and contributing to continuous improvement efforts
  • Successful record of event planning and execution of creative events
  • Strong project management skills and proven experience creating DEI community-based strategies and project plans
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Extensive knowledge and skills in fostering an environment of inclusion, belonging, intercultural engagement, respect, and growth
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, social media platforms, and Salesforce or other CRM experience
  • Responsibilities will require adjusted work schedules such as some evening and weekend hours to accommodate community-partner meetings, events and/or activities
  • This is a full time position that requires working on-site, as well as some travel. Access to reliable transportation for off-site meetings, events, and/or activities needed
