Defensive Coordinator for Varsity Football / Classroom Teacher

Job Title: Defensive Co-Coordinator (Football) / Classroom Teacher
Location: Calhoun Academy, St. Matthews, SC
Reports To: Athletic Director and Head of School

Position Summary:
Calhoun Academy is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to serve as a Defensive Co-Coordinator for our varsity football team while fulfilling responsibilities as a classroom teacher. The ideal candidate will bring energy, leadership, and a commitment to the overall development of student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.
Coaching Responsibilities (Football – Fall Season):
● Collaborate with the Head Coach and fellow Co-Coordinator to develop, install, and implement the defensive game plan and weekly practice plans.
● Oversee all aspects of the defensive unit, including film breakdown, opponent scouting, and in-game adjustments.
● Coach a specific defensive position group (e.g., linebackers, defensive backs, or linemen).
● Mentor student-athletes, emphasizing character development, sportsmanship, academic success, and leadership.
● Assist with weight training and conditioning programs during the offseason and preseason.
● Attend all practices, games, coaches' meetings, and team events.
● Comply with all SCISA athletic regulations and Calhoun Academy policies.

Teaching Responsibilities:
● Teach academic courses in subject areas based on experience.
● Prepare and deliver engaging lesson plans that meet school curriculum standards.
● Maintain classroom discipline and provide a positive, respectful learning environment.
● Track and report student progress, communicate regularly with parents/guardians, and participate in school events.
● Participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and contribute to the broader school community.

Qualifications:
● Bachelor of Science degree or Bachelor of Arts degree required.
● Prior high school football coaching experience required; experience as a defensive coordinator or position coach preferred.
● Strong knowledge of defensive schemes, player development, and game planning.
● Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
● Commitment to the values and mission of Calhoun Academy, including fostering respect, responsibility, and pride in students.

Preferred Start Date: June 2025 (Preseason Training)
