Job summary

Brown Sugar Bakery in Louisiana is seeking a creative Cake Decorator to join our team on an as-needed, part-time basis. You will decorate custom celebration cakes, work with buttercream and fondant, and translate customer inspiration photos into finished pieces.

This on-call, hourly position offers a flexible schedule, weekend availability, and paid W-2 employment with standard payroll deductions. Experience with tiered cakes and sanitation standards is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years cake decorating experience preferred.

• Ability to decorate custom cakes independently.
• Experience with tiered cakes and cake support systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Decorate custom birthday cakes, celebration cakes, and specialty orders.
• Prepare, fill, frost, and finish cakes to bakery standards.
• Create buttercream designs, borders, lettering, and decorative finishes.
• Work with fondant, edible images, and specialty cake decorations.
• Stack and assemble multi-layer and tiered cakes.
• Reproduce customer inspiration designs while maintaining quality.
• Complete orders within established production deadlines.
• Maintain clean and sanitary decorating stations.
• Communicate decorating timelines and supply needs to management.
• Assist with other bakery production tasks when needed.

Brown Sugar is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Cake Decorator to join our bakery team on an as-needed basis and paid hourly by job.

The ideal candidate has experience decorating custom celebration cakes, working with buttercream and fondant, and transforming customer inspiration photos into beautiful finished products.

This position is ideal for an experienced decorator seeking flexible, project-based scheduling.

Key responsibilities

• Decorate custom birthday cakes, celebration cakes, and specialty orders.
• Prepare, fill, frost, and finish cakes to bakery standards.
• Create buttercream designs, borders, lettering, and decorative finishes.
• Work with fondant, edible images, and specialty cake decorations.
• Stack and assemble multi-layer and tiered cakes.
• Reproduce customer inspiration designs while maintaining quality.

Schedule and compensation

• $25–$28 per hour, depending on experience.
• Part-time, on-call position.
• Hours vary based on custom cake orders.
• Advance scheduling whenever possible.
• Some weekend availability required.
• Paid as a W-2 employee, with legally required payroll deductions and benefits.
