Job summary

Orion Group Holdings, Inc. seeks a deckhand to support safe vessel operations and assist the crew. You will perform general deck duties, mooring lines, and rig towing lines, while maintaining the vessel’s cleanliness and safety standards.

The role requires ability to follow directions, work with the team, and endure long 12-hour shifts with a rotating schedule. Prior marine experience is a plus, and compliance with safety protocols is essential.

Qualifications

  • Prior marine vessel experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and work well with crew members.
  • Able to follow specific directions from supervision and complete safety training as required.
  • Able to work with close supervision and repeat tasks with accuracy.
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts with 2 weeks on and 1 week off.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general deck duties for safe, efficient operation of the vessel.
  • Handles lines to moor vessels or rig towing lines.
  • Rigs cables for lifting with cranes or anchor barges.
  • Checks engine fluid levels, belts and alarms before startup; checks for leaks during rounds.
  • Loads and unloads materials from vessels, barges, docks, and trucks.
  • Cleans equipment, vessels, and compartments; maintains cleanliness.
  • Maintains vessel appearance and proper housekeeping throughout.
  • Serves as Lookout or Watch when underway to other locations.
  • Conducts rounds to check for fire, water ingress, tow attitude, and general conditions.
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives to improve company programs.
