Deckhand/Unloading Operator - Jefferson City, MO

Join us at Capital Sand Company as a Deckhand/Unloading Operator. This full-time position involves handling lines and equipment to secure vessels, operating unloading equipment, and performing general maintenance and cleaning duties on boats, dredges, and related vessels.

Responsibilities

• Assist the boat captain with lookout, navigation, and securing tows.
• Handle ropes and cables for towing and securing barges.
• Perform maintenance on vessels and equipment, including oil changes and servicing deck machinery.
• Clean debris from vessels and maintain cleanliness and organization onboard.
• Paint and perform minor repairs to vessels.
• Participate in safety drills, inspections, and training.
• Assist with fueling and other operational tasks.
• Comply with safety policies and Coast Guard regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including cross-training in other crew functions.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of deckhand experience on inland rivers (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to travel overnight.
• Ability to pass physical, drug, and background checks.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and overtime as needed.
• Strong work ethic and good communication skills in English.
• Willingness to work around water and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Training or knowledge of MSHA and Coast Guard regulations, welding, or mechanical skills are a plus.
