Under direction of the Caltrans Bridge Maintenance Supervisor the incumbent performs duties to assist in the operation of the Real McCoy II Ferryboat. Assists in the loading and unloading motor vehicles and passengers, the enforcing of the Code of Federal Regulations pertaining to ferry operations, acts as a lookout and watch-person during transit reporting obstacles in the path of the vessel to the Ferry Master and assist with man overboard operations.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Deckhand Ferryboat exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
