Job summary

Goldfish Swim School - Houston Heights is looking for a Deck Supervisor to manage shifts, supervise on-deck employees, and ensure a positive environment for students and parents. This role includes conducting pre-shift meetings, evaluating instructors, and maintaining the cleanliness of the pool facility.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with children, and prefer candidates with prior swim instruction experience. Certifications in lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to pass background examinations included with training.
• Previous experience as a youth sports instructor, camp counselor, or teacher preferred.
• College degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise on-deck employees during assigned shift.
• Conduct daily pre-shift meetings and prepare deck.
• Evaluate instructors and deck teachers periodically.
• Interact with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
• Ensure cleanliness of the pool facility.
• Act as a substitute swim instructor when necessary.

Job Title

Deck Supervisor

Reports to

General Manager / Assistant General Manager / Pool Operations Manager

Summary

Manages assigned shift including supervision of on-deck employees, maintenance of pool environment and interaction with students and parents/guardians. Exhibits expert-level knowledge of all levels of the GSS curriculum. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of GSS management policies and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides leadership, discipline and constructive feedback to instructors and deck teachers to ensure quality delivery of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.


2. Conducts daily pre-shift meetings and prepares the deck for the shift.


3. Conducts periodic evaluations of instructors and deck teachers.


4. Interacts with parents/guardians to discuss student progress.


5. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure customer satisfaction.


6. Completes daily Deck Supervisor logs on assigned shift and monitors the students’ attendance.


7. Coordinates tasks required to ensure the cleanliness of the pool facility.


8. Arranges for replacements for absent employees.


9. Maintains the appropriate levels of chemicals for the pool environment.


10. Acts as substitute swim instructor when necessary.


11. Suggests areas for improvement and implements corrective action through in-services or other training.


12. Participates in training/in-services as required.


13. Fulfills other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education / Experience

High school diploma or GED is preferred. Two or more years as a swim instructor required. Experience as a youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or teacher preferred. College degree preferred.

Certificates and Licenses

Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

Work Environment

While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
