Job summary

Goldfish Swim School of Houston Heights is seeking a Deck Supervisor to lead the pool deck team with positivity, ensuring a safe, efficient environment and a welcoming culture for members and staff.

You will coach teachers and deck assistants, conduct daily shift meetings, and help maintain best practices according to the Goldfish curriculum and EDGE guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certified lifeguard experience preferred.
• Experience coaching youth or swim staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the pool deck team with a positive, safety‑m first approach.
• Deliver the Goldfish EDGE standards to ensure a consistent, organized pool deck experience.
• Conduct daily pre/post shift meetings and foster team culture through activities.
• Assist with evaluations of instructors and deck team members.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress and member satisfaction.
• Ensure pool deck readiness and cleanliness; manage shift coverage and replacements as needed.
• Maintain certifications (Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, AED) and participate in mandatory trainings.

Summary: Leads the pool deck team with positivity, ensuring a safe, efficient environment while fostering a welcoming culture for members and staff. Deck Supervisors are knowledgeable in all levels of the GSS Curriculum, demonstrating, coaching, and guiding the team to execute Goldfish policies and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Provides leadership and constructive feedback to teachers and deck assistants to ensure quality delivery of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
2. Follows the Pool Deck Everyday Golden Experience (EDGE) poster to deliver a consistent, organized, and exceptional pool deck experience every day.
   • Consistently utilizes Pool Deck EDGE assessment and playbook for accountability and best practices.
3. Cultivates a Golden Experience culture on the pool deck at all times for both members and team.
4. Prepares and leads daily Pre-Shift and Post-Shift meetings.
   • Ensuring the team is engaged and fostering culture through team-building activities and Micro Workshops.
5. Prepares the pool deck for the shift before the team arrives.
6. Maintains the premium brand by ensuring that all Teachers uphold the highest standards of lesson quality.
7. Assist with evaluations of swim instructors and deck team members.
8. Interacts with parents/guardians to discuss student progress.
9. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure member satisfaction.
10. Facilitate effective communication among the members, Deck Team, Front Desk Team, and Management.
11. Completes daily Deck Supervisor logs on assigned shift(s) and monitors the children’s attendance.
12. Coordinates tasks required to ensure the cleanliness of the pool deck.
13. Helps arrange replacements for absent employees.
14. Connects with both Golden Teachers and new hires to review shift outcomes and celebrate progress toward goals.
15. Assist with the appropriate levels of chemicals for the pool environment.
16. Act as a substitute Teacher when necessary.
17. Connects with Swimologist to suggest areas of improvement and implements corrective action through workshops or other training.
18. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
19. Maintains the following certifications: Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and AED certifications.

Preferred Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor, and/or child care provider.

Work Environment:

While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
