Job description

Role And Responsibilities

The Deck Captain works under the supervision of the Captain and oversees all deck operations onboard the cutter suction dredge and ancillary equipment. This is a working position requiring supervision and active participation with the deck crew.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing all deck operations on the dredge.
  2. Coordinating anchor handling and pipeline operations.
  3. Overseeing maintenance and repairs of dredge equipment.
  4. Ensuring safety, health, and environmental regulations are followed.
  5. Conducting Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  6. Promoting a positive team environment and maintaining discipline.
  7. Fostering good relationships with third-party equipment crews.
  8. Implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  9. Participating in safety and environmental initiatives.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Education Requirements

The candidate must have:

  1. 5 to 10 years of offshore water experience, preferably with dredging equipment.
  2. Thorough knowledge of anchor handling and pipeline operations for cutter suction dredges.
  3. Supervisory experience with deck crews.
  4. Understanding of key dredging equipment and maintenance needs.
  5. Compliance with safety regulations.
  6. Effective work and communication skills.
  7. Ability to work remotely for extended periods.
  8. Reliability and motivation.
  9. Ability to obtain TWIC certification.
  10. Teamwork and results-driven attitude.
Physical and Mental Requirements

The role requires physical capability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations, including wearing PPE and working in various environmental conditions. Specific physical activities include walking, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and working at heights or in confined spaces.

Adherence to safety responsibilities and maintaining a safe workplace is mandatory. Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
