Job description

The Dean will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College, providing leadership in strategic planning, academic development, faculty excellence, student success, targeted fundraising and community engagement. The Dean will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and serve on the VPAA leadership team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

1. Academic Leadership: Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the College’s academic programs, ensuring they align with both the university’s mission and the evolving needs of the healthcare industry. Oversee the accreditation process for all relevant programs.
2. Strategic Planning & Vision: Develop and execute a vision for the College’s growth and evolution in health sciences education. Work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to define goals, strategies, and measurable outcomes.
3. Faculty & Staff Management: Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff to create an inclusive and collaborative environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research, and service. Foster professional development and support faculty in their scholarly pursuits.
4. Student Success: Promote student engagement, retention, and success. Ensure the College provides a rigorous and supportive learning environment for all students, preparing them for careers in healthcare that align with the values of compassion, ethics, and service.
5. Budget and Resource Management: Oversee the fiscal operations of the College, including budget planning, resource allocation, fundraising, and grant writing. Seek opportunities for external funding to support academic programs, research, and student scholarships.
6. Community & Healthcare Partnerships: Build and sustain strong relationships with healthcare organizations, community partners, and alumni to enhance the College’s visibility, reputation, and opportunities for students. Facilitate internships, clinical placements, and collaborative research initiatives.
7. Commitment to the Catholic Mission: Uphold and promote the university’s Catholic worldview and mission in all aspects of the College’s operations. Integrate faith-based principles into the health sciences curriculum and foster an environment of moral and ethical responsibility in healthcare.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Qualifications:

1. A DNP or a MSN with an academic doctorate.
2. A minimum of five years of successful administrative experience in higher education, with a strong background in academic leadership, budgeting, strategic planning and personnel management.
3. A minimum of 5 years of undergraduate teaching experience in nursing.
4. Experience in curriculum development and assessment in health sciences aligned with high-level standards and innovative development.
5. Experience building a positive work environment, mission-aligned work culture and balancing accountability with support for faculty and staff.
6. Proven track record of faculty and staff development, including commitment to appropriate clinical scholarship and faculty engagement with best in practice techniques in teaching and learning.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders cross-enterprise.
8. Knowledge of current trends in healthcare education, including regulatory standards, accreditation processes, and workforce development best practices.
9. Able to provide oversight of programs in the College, being mindful of both cost effectiveness and progressive growth.
10. Participate directly in hiring for intellectual strength, clinical and teaching skills and potential for leadership with a service mindset.
11. A deep understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of a Catholic liberal arts institution.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience with health sciences programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
2. Familiarity with the Catholic intellectual tradition and its integration into health sciences education.
3. Active engagement with professional organizations and healthcare networks.
