Job description

West Oak Lane Charter School is looking for a Dean of Students for our 3rd-5th grade level students for the 2025-2026 school year.

Position involves coordination and oversight of discipline program at West Oak Lane Charter School. Conducts behavior intervention activities with groups of students and individuals. Consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems such as truancy and misbehavior, and to implement solutions. Assesses disciplinary policies and procedures and other internal and external factors that impact student behavior and/or learning; and identifies appropriate interventions and supports.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Counsel students regarding educational issues such as school adjustment, truancy, study habits, and planning for secondary school by employing effective and strategic measures.
  • Counsel students and parents / guardians to help students understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their academic progress.
  • Mediate interpersonal problems between students.
  • Administer, coordinate, or recommend disciplinary and corrective actions.
  • Communicate with teachers and other staff to develop appropriate interventions and supports that address the needs of individual students and resolve individual problems.
  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation, and meet timelines in regards to related administrative reports, and provide timely communications to parents, teachers and administrative team.
  • Provide or refer student for crisis intervention when appropriate.
  • Assist with lunchroom supervision and bus monitor/dismissal program.
  • Assist in developing school/community partnerships that serve as interventions or resources in the areas of mentoring, discipline and extra curricular activities.
  • Maintain professional competence through appropriate professional growth activities.

·Perform related work as required.


Minimum of five years' satisfactory related experience. Bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. Masters degree in the counseling field with certification preferred.
