Job summary

Essential Functions
  • Develops and implements student-related regulations, policies, procedures, and/or processes for the purpose of providing expertise and knowledge to support staff and students with effective methods of behavior modification, providing direction, and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students, and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving issues, and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Facilitates meetings and/or processes for the purpose of providing instructional coaching to district staff and serving as a liaison to families, police/probation officers, and community organizations.
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
  • Participates in, or facilitates, meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. reports, student activities, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Supports teachers (e.g. assist teachers in establishing classroom management practices, train staff, demonstrate effective courses of discipline and desired outcomes, etc.) for the purpose of providing tools to enhance the learning environment and promoting students'' educational success.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
KNOWLEDGE

is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; conflict resolution; grammar, spelling and punctuation; knowledge of community resources; concepts and practices of mediation; concepts of adult learning; and, school safety and security practices.

SKILLS

are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying behavioral, curriculum and instructional techniques; classifying data and/or information; conducting meetings; utilizing critical observation; enforcing discipline policies; enforcing rules and regulations; and, investigating issues.

ABILITY

is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, students, and families; working with frequent interruptions; creating and maintaining effective work relationships; maintaining a positive school climate for students, staff, and community; motivating staff; adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; and, working simultaneously on multiple issues or projects.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational policies to achieve organizational objectives; directing other persons within a small work unit; tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 40% walking, 30% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Education: Masters degree in job related area with an emphasis in in job-related area.
