GEO Next Generation High School in Baton Rouge seeks a flexible, 10‑month administrator to support discipline, attendance, and campus safety. The position reports to the principal and administrative team and will work with teachers, students, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Protect health and welfare of students
  • Assist students in establishing high standards of conduct
  • Address improvement of student attendance and discipline
  • Report illegal acts to authorities
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure event coverage
  • Confer with students and parents on security matters
  • Coordinate with outside organizations and agencies
  • Develop and administer campus security practices
  • Patrol buildings and grounds
  • Investigate and resolve discipline problems in a fair manner
  • Investigate student complaints and grievances
  • Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations
  • Adjudicate and monitor minor infractions of the school code
  • Suspend students per policy and law
  • Facilitate student re-entry meetings and provide Peer Mediation
  • Maintain disciplinary records
  • Present school case in due process for suspension/expulsion
  • Oversee attendance: communicate with parents/teachers/Principal
  • Investigate attendance issues
  • Assign truancy consequences
  • Decide excusable absences per policy
  • Advise on attendance improvements
  • Maintain attendance records
  • Compare data for verification
  • Counsel students and work with Guidance Counselor/IEP team for testing/guidance
  • Provide input for student placement/evaluation
  • Refer to district staff
  • Advise on program modifications for individual needs
  • Coordinate suspension reduction program
  • Assist new students with transition
  • Communicate with family and community including law enforcement
  • Work with agencies on drug abuse and truancy

Description

GEO Next Generation High School is a part of a network of high-quality charter schools managed by the GEO Foundation. It joins GEO Prep Academy and GEO Prep Mid-City, delivering a high-quality K-12 learning experience to parents and students in the Baton Rouge community. GEO Next Generation High School is a tuition-free, public charter school that will begin with 9th grade and add a grade each year over the subsequent three years. Our teachers cultivate critical thinking skills students need to understand how the world works around them. Our dedicated faculty are committed to providing an outstanding education for students each day as they transition from elementary to middle school to high school and COLLEGE. Through our partnership with the local community college, our students will be able to take dual credit courses with the opportunity to earn college credit at no cost to the student. Our curriculum and our teaching methods are designed using Core Knowledge, Teach Like a Champion and blended learning model. We are a TAP school!

REPORTS TO/TERM:

Principal and Administrative Team

This is a full or part-time 10-month position

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/SPECIFIC JOB-RELATED TASKS:
  • Shares with principal the responsibility for protecting health and welfare of students
  • Assists students in establishing high standards of conduct
  • Properly addresses the improvement of student attendance and discipline
  • Reports illegal acts to the proper authorities
  • Coordinates with other staff members to ensure coverage at all school events at which coverage is necessary.
  • Confers with students and parents on security matters
  • Coordinates with outside organizations and agencies
  • Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with campus control and security
  • Patrols buildings and grounds
Investigates and resolves all discipline problems in a fair and just manner
  • Investigates student complaints and grievances.
  • Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations
  • Investigate, adjudicate, and monitor minor infractions of the school code in the form of progressive discipline such as detentions, classroom referrals, Saturday detention, and in‑school suspension
  • Suspends students from school in accordance with Board policy and state law
  • Re‑enters students upon completion of out‑of‑school suspensions, facilitates student/teacher re‑ entry meetings, and provides Peer Mediation to resolve student conflicts
  • Maintains disciplinary records required by policy, regulation, law or good practice
  • Presents the school’s case in due process proceedings for suspension and expulsion
Oversee all matters of student attendance
  • Communicate with parents, teachers and Principal on student attendance.
  • Investigates attendance issues
  • Assign students appropriate consequences for truancy
  • Decide if absences are excusable under state law and board policy
  • Advises students and parents on ways to improve attendance
  • Oversees student attendance record to ensure all absences are adjudicated
  • Compare information or data with other records for verification
Counsels’ individual students and, when necessary, works with Guidance Counselor and Special Education Team for testing, guidance or psychological counseling:
  • Assists students in establishing high standards of conduct
  • Provides input as needed for student placement and evaluation
  • Makes referrals to other professional staff members in the district
  • Advises on modification of program to meet individual student needs
  • Coordinates and refers students to the suspension reduction program
  • Assists new students with transitioning to school
Provides and maintains appropriate communication with family and community, including law enforcement agencies and the judicial systems.
  • Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy
  • Works cooperatively with local police agencies and the School Resource Office on security matters
  • Serves as liaison between school and home
  • Serves as liaison between school and juvenile court
  • Serves as liaison between school, police and School Resource Officer
  • Represents the school system at community meetings and conferences
