Job description

Support teaching and leadership teams at the East Campus by activities including but not limited to, developing and enforcing policies related to student discipline and attendance; monitoring and enforcing building safety and security; assisting in planning and implementing student behavior programs; and acting in the role of Title IX coordinator.

SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Culture

  • Steward PBIS-centered disciplinary program for all VCS West students in grades Kindergarten - 8 centered on school character traits and policy expectations while always remaining aware of unique VCS student and community cultural awareness.
  • Execute school-wide culture systems and routines in order to create a safe, purposeful, and inclusive school environment.
  • Communicate regularly and often with families to both solicit input and share student behavioral progress, while empowering teachers to do the same.
  • Manage campus culture, and discipline systems - responding quickly and effectively to all complaints as they arise.
  • Support intervention plans and restorative approaches to support all students with special attention to supporting students with social and emotional needs.
  • Meet regularly with the Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to design and implement appropriate professional development, guidelines, and performance management systems executed by teachers as first interveners.
  • Ensure that students are safe and maximize learning time by upholding school-wide behavioral expectations.
  • Provide daily leadership during community gatherings that set the tone for academic programs.
  • Serve as a member of the campus-based Leadership Team.
  • Assist with student recruitment by supporting positive, restorative, and regulatory required behavior response actions.

As a Dean of Culture, you will

  • Build a positive student culture in which students and community members of all cultures feel seen, valued, and heard
  • Lead restorative conversations with teachers, and students in order to repair relationships and find the root causes of issues as they arise.
  • Coach teams of instructors on positive culture building, classroom management, supporting student attendance, and enforcement of student behavior expectations as identified in the student/parent handbook.
  • Act as point of contact for family interactions in regards to attendance, behavior, interventions, restorative approaches and supports for student success.
  • Process behavioral events with students and help them regulate after an emotional escalation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.A. (Required)
  • M.A., M.S, Ed.S, Ed.D, or Ph.D (Preferred, but not required)
  • CO Principal or Administrator License (Preferred, but not required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of classroom experience
  • Strong ability to build relationships with Kindergarten through 12th grade students, and support them in meeting high expectations
  • Strong ability to build relationships with Kindergarten through 12th grade staff; steward their training in areas such as PBIS interventions and restorative practices such that they can in turn meet high expectations
  • A commitment to the social emotional well-being of all students and the culture of the school.
  • Ability to work with students and parents/guardians of all cultures and lead/steward potentially stressful meetings in productive and positive ways.
  • Availability after regular working hours for issues such as threat assessments, suicide risk assessments, etc.
  • Certification from various entities in all areas of student intervention including but not limited to CPR, Restraint Training, Suicide Risk Assessment, Threat Assessment, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Activities: Office/school environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students, families, peers, and community members.
  • Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 30 pounds).
  • Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work related functions.

Compensation:

This is a full-time, year-round position. Salary range is $60,000 to $70,000 annually, dependent upon education and experience.
