Key Responsibilities
At Mission Prep, we believe every child deserves an excellent education rooted in equity, joy, rigor, and results. The Dean of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) for TK–2 is a key school leader who ensures our youngest students build a strong foundation in early literacy and core academic skills. This leader coaches, develops, and holds teachers accountable to high instructional standards, especially in the critical early years.
The K–2 DCI is an expert in early childhood instruction and literacy , a collaborative teammate, and a systems thinker who drives teacher growth through consistent coaching, real-time feedback, and a commitment to our students and families. As a member of the Instructional Leadership Team , this leader plays a vital role in ensuring instructional excellence and equitable outcomes for all scholars.
Instructional Coaching & Teacher Development
- Coach and develop a cohort of TK–2 teachers with a laser focus on early literacy instruction aligned to the Science of Reading , including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Provide bi-weekly observation and feedback cycles for each teacher, using real-time coaching, side-by-side modeling, and student data to inform practice.
- Set and maintain high expectations for instruction, planning, and classroom culture; provide support and accountability to ensure teachers meet or exceed expectations.
- Lead teachers in using assessment data to drive small-group instruction and targeted literacy interventions.
- Collaborate with teachers to internalize curriculum and prepare to teach lessons that meet the high expectations for the standards while meeting individual student needs.
Instructional Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner with the school leader and broader leadership team to create and sustain a coherent vision for TK–2 instruction and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Plan and facilitate TK–2-specific professional development , grade-level meetings, and data analysis sessions that build teacher expertise and foster collaboration. Keen alignment with policies and procedures to meet organizational goals and objectives.
- Contribute to the design and refinement of school-wide instructional systems (e.g., coaching schedules, assessment calendars, intervention supports).
- Manage data systems, including inputting, monitoring, and analyzing student achievement trends and sharing updates with stakeholders; model use of data to drive instructional priorities and teacher development goals.
- Serve as a thought partner and team player across grade levels and roles, contributing positively to school culture, operations, and family partnerships.
Modeling Accountability & Professionalism
- Set and communicate a clear bar for excellence and hold teachers accountable to academic and behavioral expectations through honest, compassionate feedback, timely follow-through, and formal evaluation responsibilities.
- Create an environment of mutual trust , where feedback is welcomed, growth is celebrated, and every teacher feels seen and supported.
- Model and hold others accountable to Mission Prep’s values in action: we are grounded in equity, driven by results, joyful in our work, and deeply committed to our students and each other.
- Proactively support and contribute to school-wide duties and systems (e.g., lunch, recess, substitution, free play, transitions, assessment monitoring) as a visible, engaged, and student-centered school leader.
Additionally, based on experience and school needs responsibilities will include:
- Facilitating PD/ staff training and taking leadership role in professional development activities
- Planning and/or revising sessions that will help improve educators' performance
- Mentoring and/or coaching other Instructional Coaches/Deans
- Facilitating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Sessions
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Cleared Teaching Credential in Multiple Subjects
- CLAD/BCLAD certification or equivalent
- Must hold a valid CPR certification that meets the standards established by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC)
- Prior experience as an Instructional Leader, including experience supervising and leading observation life cycles for educators.
- Expertise in explicit foundational skills and structured literacy instruction in TK-2 aligned to the Science of Reading.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Strong organizational capacity
- Experience analyzing and using data to inform practice
- Expertise in cross-functional leadership and managing teams
- Openness to feedback and commitment to developing continually as a professional educator
- Prior accountability for student achievement outcomes
Preferred
- Administrative Credential
- Urban teaching experience
- Masters Degree in Education or Leadership
- Experience with Benchmark Advance, SIPPS, and Zearn as well as NWEA and iReady.
Start Date:
July 10th, 2025
Time Commitment:
This position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 12-month work year with significant student-free days for professional
learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families through nightly events, overnight field trips, and
weekend activities are required.
Schedule: 7:30A- 4:30PM (TBD)
Credential: TMPS provides diligent support and advice through a dedicated Credentialing Advisor to ensure compliance of valid certification/s for local and out-of-state applicants.
Salary and Compensation:
Salary scales are based on years of experience and expertise. Scales are competitive with other charter
school organizations and local districts.
Salary base: $83,520.64 - $151,507.98 per year
