Job summary

Mesquite ISD seeks an instructional support paraprofessional to assist with the Deaf education program in a mixed special and general education setting. You will adapt instructional materials and support students with diverse needs under a certified teacher's guidance.

The role emphasizes collaboration, confidentiality, and hands-on help with students including mobility and daily care tasks. Prior experience with Deaf/HOH learners is valued.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Texas Educational Aide Certificate required.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Familiarity with Deaf Community and ASL preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Deaf education teacher to prepare instructional materials and displays.
  • Assist with instructional program under supervision of a certified teacher, adapting to individual student needs.
  • Assist in keeping administrative records and required reports.
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care as needed.
  • Help manage student behavior under teacher supervision.
  • Support small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises.
  • Report any special needs or problems to the teacher.
  • Assist assessment team with tests as needed.
  • Supervise students during the day in class, lunchroom, bus, and playground.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
