Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with endorsements for assignment as a certified teacher of the deaf
  • Knowledge of language development skills
  • Skilled in sign language
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
  • Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal-setting process and implementation
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff to develop IEPs through ARD for each student assigned.
  • Implement appropriate instructional strategies to meet individual needs of students.
  • Plan and use instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment reflecting accommodations for individual needs.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula and assist students in regular classes.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.
  • Conduct assessment of student competencies and use results for instructional activities.
  • Present the subject matter according to IEP guidelines.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers.
  • Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.
