Job summary

Oakland Unified School District PEC Special Ed Local Plan Area (SELPA) in Oakland, California seeks an Interpreter for Deaf II to provide verbatim interpretation between deaf students and hearing staff and students. The role supports classroom and extracurricular activities under the Special Education department.

The position requires collaborating with teachers of the deaf, attending IEP meetings, and upholding RID ethics.

Qualifications

• Meet Highly Qualified requirement: High school diploma or equivalent plus college units or degree.
• Possession of an interpreter training program certificate or degree.
• Fingerprinting, TB test and other employment clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for interpretation by reviewing texts and meeting with staff.
• Tutor students and monitor drills as directed by the teacher.
• Provide voice to sign and sign to voice for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
• Participate in IEP meetings and discuss communication strategies.
• Provide interpreting services for school activities and meetings.
