Job summary

Lion Copolymer Geismar, LLC is seeking a DCS Operator to direct the flow of production for each shift in Port Neches, TX. You will operate and tend equipment to control chemical changes and monitor process conditions to ensure safety, efficiency and product quality.

Responsibilities include adjusting controls, recording data, performing quality tests, coordinating with supervision, and responding to emergencies while maintaining housekeeping standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of 7 years of plant operator experience with hazardous materials.
  • Associate degree (two-year college or technical school).

Responsibilities

  • Move control settings to adjust equipment speeds and outputs.
  • Monitor instruments, meters, lights, and indicators to verify process conditions.
  • Operate chemical processes using control boards or semi-automatic equipment.
  • Record operating data and test results for quality control.
  • Coordinate with supervisors to address safety and efficiency issues.
  • Take samples and conduct quality tests to verify product standards.
  • Regulate or shut down equipment in emergencies as directed.
  • Notify maintenance for malfunctions and adjust power, steam, water or air supplies.
  • Inspect units such as towers and tanks to ensure optimal operation.
  • Direct workers operating machinery controlling material flow.
  • Turn valves to regulate product flow through tanks and drums.
  • Calculate material requirements or yields from formulas.
  • Gauge tank levels with calibrated rods.
  • Document work orders in SAP promptly.
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in operational areas.
  • Complete all required paperwork.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Direct the flow of production for the shift. Operate or tend equipment to control chemical changes or reactions in the processing of industrial products

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

List each major accountability (end result) and the key activities necessary to accomplish the end result.

  • Move control settings to make necessary adjustments on equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, and yields.
  • Monitor recording instruments, flow meters, panel lights, and other indicators, and listen for warning signals, in order to verify conformity of process conditions.
  • Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment.
  • Record operating data such as process conditions, test results, and instrument readings.
  • Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Draw samples of products and conduct quality control tests in order to monitor processing, and to ensure that standards are met.
  • Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Respond to injuries, incidents, spill, etc. per company policy and procedures.
  • Interpret chemical reactions on monitors, and review laboratory test reports for process adjustments.
  • Notify maintenance and other auxiliary personnel to correct equipment malfunctions and to adjust power, steam, water, or air supplies.
  • Inspect operating units such as towers, storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors, and driers to ensure that all are functioning, and to maintain maximum efficiency.
  • Direct workers engaged in operating machinery that regulates the flow of materials and products.
  • Turn valves to regulate flow of products or byproducts through agitator tanks, storage drums, or neutralizer tanks.
  • Calculate material requirements or yields according to formulas.
  • Gauge tank levels, using calibrated rods.
  • Assure work orders are reported and documented through SAP in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the housekeeping, 5S standards, cleanliness and organization of the operational areas.
  • Complete all required paperwork as necessary.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

State the minimum type and level of training and/or formal education and experience required to do your job.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

Minimum of 7 years of plant operator experience with hazardous materials

Desired Qualifications:

Associate degree (two-year college or technical school)

Prior Work Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of related chemical plant experience with hazardous materials.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Indicate a percentage of time you spend in the normal course of performing the job.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Ability and willingness to wear a respirator as required
