Job summary

The Charlottesville Police Department is seeking Virginia DCJS certified police officers to protect and serve Charlottesville residents with fair and impartial enforcement of laws. The role involves routine patrol, preliminary investigations, and traffic enforcement across designated districts.

Qualifications

• Must hold DCJS Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• In-state Virginia DCJS certified officers preferred.
• Must be US citizen or permanent resident meeting USCIS requirements.
• Ability to pass background and field training.

Responsibilities

• patrol designated districts to preserve law and order and enforce motor vehicle laws
• respond to calls for service and emergencies, prepare reports, and make arrests
• conduct preliminary investigations and gather evidence
• interact with community to solve safety issues and provide information
• appear in court to testify and locate witnesses
