• Minimum three years of newsroom reporting experience with a focus on DC or political coverage.
• Experience writing about the White House and Congress and building sources within the Trump administration.
• Strong editorial judgment and writing skills under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Report and write breaking news and enterprise stories on DC politics and government actions.
• Spot news from political interviews, speeches and social media postings
• Land interviews with power brokers in DC politics
• Cover legislative battles, policy shifts, elections, and key political figures.
• Break exclusive stories and find fresh angles on widely covered issues.
• Build and maintain a network of sources, from lawmakers and lobbyists to administration and campaign officials.
• Stay on top of political developments in real time and file timely, accurate copy.
• Use public records, FOIA requests, and social media to surface and verify stories.
• Work closely with editors and colleagues to produce fast, engaging coverage across digital and social platforms.
