Job summary

Brown and Caldwell is seeking an Environmental Permitting and Regulatory Specialist to provide day-to-day program support for complex permitting projects in the DC Metro area, including Maryland and Virginia. You will lead NEPA compliance efforts, coordinate with agencies, and guide project teams to ensure timely approvals across multiple jurisdictions.

The role requires strong experience with federal and District permitting processes, and the ability to mentor staff while advancing project

Qualifications

• Typically, 5+ years of related work experience in compliance & permitting or related field is required.
• Experience coordinating projects in DC Metro, MD and VA region with local agency expectations is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review technical work performed by junior staff.
• Conduct regulatory gap analysis to ensure alignment with legal and environmental requirements.
• Support strategic permit planning to secure necessary permissions for project execution.
• Prepare and submit permit applications in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Conduct multi-media environmental audits, assessments and reporting to evaluate compliance status.
• Provide compliance support and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
• Engage with regulatory agencies to resolve issues and facilitate permit procurement.
• Lead risk reduction through planning and effective management of environmental liabilities.
