Job summary

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Air Support Unit seeks an Aircraft Mechanic to ensure airworthiness of department helicopters through disassembly, repair, inspection and installation of major assemblies and systems. You will diagnose malfunctions and perform preventive maintenance to support mission readiness.

Authorized roles require FAA airframe and powerplant certification and 3+ years turbine helicopter maintenance experience; a related bachelor’s degree is preferred, with

Qualifications

• Skills and thorough knowledge of rotary wing aircraft systems and their interrelationships.
• Ability to diagnose malfunctions and determine repair or replacement.
• Experience as a helicopter mechanic with technical expert authority.
• Skill in removal, replacement, and adjustment of systems and components.
• Proficient use of maintenance software and cockpit gauges.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the airworthiness of MPD aircraft, including disassembly, repair, overhaul, inspection and modification.
• Conducts inspections and diagnoses malfunctions per FAA directives and manufacturer guidelines.
• Performs pre-flight, daily and post-flight inspections and flight-test components.
• Installs and aligns major assemblies and powertrain units; tests electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Adheres to safety protocols and maintains accurate maintenance records.
