The University of Kansas seeks a Federal Relations Manager based in Washington, D.C., reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Federal Relations. This role advances KU priorities in sponsored research, higher education policy, and health policy at the federal level.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three (3) years of Washington D.C. advocacy experience.
  • Experience with federally funded research and higher education policy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the AVC with management of the university's daily involvement with the US Congress and executive branch on legislative policy.
  • Arrange interactions between KU community members and congress, federal officials, and staff.
  • Advise leadership on potential institutional effects of proposed federal legislative changes.
  • Develop and advocate federal policy of interest to KU and represent the university with national associations.
  • Promote engagement with national higher education associations (AAU, APLU) and place leaders in leadership roles.
  • Support KU alumni engagement in Washington, D.C. to advance the university's federal relations mission.
  • Attend hearings and meetings and represent KU with national coalitions in DC.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.
