Job summary

BetaNXT Inc. in the United States seeks an experienced IBM DB2 for z/OS Database Administrator to join our data operations team.

You will ensure high-performance database environments, optimize SQL, and support production systems in a 24x7 on-call setting. The role focuses on tuning DB2, managing DDF environments, log and recovery operations, and delivering strong database administration and on-going performance improvements across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• 8–15 years of experience as an IBM DB2 for z/OS Database Administrator.

Responsibilities

• Perform SQL performance analysis and tuning.
• Monitor and optimize application performance using IBM tools.
• Develop automation utilities using REXX programming.
• Conduct performance and capacity management by tuning DB2 and system resources.
• Provide application development support, including SQL guidance and DB2 issue resolution.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation (Level 1/2).
• Support DB2 for z/OS Distributed Data Facility (DDF) environments and workload management.
• Analyze and resolve DB2 locking and concurrency issues, including deadlocks and timeouts.
• Manage DB2 logging environments and related maintenance tasks.
• Administer and optimise DB2 utilities (REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, LOAD, RECOVER, REBUILD INDEX).

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

• Perform SQL performance analysis and tuning, including query optimization, EXPLAIN analysis, access path evaluation, join strategy assessment, optimizer hints (OPTHINTs), and data normalization best practices.
• Monitor and optimize application performance using tools such as BMC MainView for DB2, BMC Apptune, CA Detector, or equivalent IBM performance monitoring solutions.
• Develop and maintain automation and operational utilities using REXX programming.
• Conduct performance and capacity management activities by tuning DB2 and system resources, leveraging monitoring, reporting, and diagnostic tools.
• Provide application development support, including SQL coding guidance, performance recommendations, and DB2 issue resolution.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation (Level 1/Level 2) covering weekdays, weekends, and critical production incidents.
• Support DB2 for z/OS Distributed Data Facility (DDF) environments, including distributed workload management, stored procedure performance tuning, and DDF-related subsystem parameter optimization.
• Analyze and resolve DB2 locking and concurrency issues, including lock escalations, lock contention, deadlocks, and timeout situations across page, row, table, tablespace, and system levels.
• Manage and troubleshoot DB2 logging environments, including active and archive logs; utilize log analysis and scanning tools to investigate performance and recovery issues.
• Administer and optimise DB2 utilities, including REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, LOAD, RECOVER, REBUILD INDEX, and related maintenance processes.

Required Qualifications

• 8–15 years of experience as an IBM DB2 for z/OS Database Administrator, with strong expertise in database administration, performance tuning, and application support.
