Job summary

Ultipro seeks a Directional Bore Operator / Locator in Texas to operate HDD rigs and locate equipment for underground telecom projects. The role includes setting up and maintaining work sites, reading utility locates, and ensuring safety compliance.

The position requires the ability to read and follow permits, perform minor maintenance on equipment, and lead field teams as needed by the supervisor. This is a hands-on, on-site role in a demanding outdoor environment.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and DOT health card required.
• Class A CDL preferred.
• Experience with HDD locating or drilling equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground telecom conduit and fiber optic cable.
• Follow safety procedures and use required safety equipment.
• Set up and clean up job site, including traffic and pedestrian control.
• Read utility locates and ensure permits and locates are complete on site.
• Inspect work to ensure conformity with specifications.

Position Title:

Directional Bore Operator / Locator

Reports To

Project Manager

Summary of Position:

The role of a Horizontal/Directional Drill Operator and Locator includes operating horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment and product support equipment. Perform semi-skilled activities related to HDD locating must be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.

DB Operator Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment
• Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control
• Reads utility locates and ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and onsite
• Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications
• Level earth to final grade specifications
• Performs proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment
• Leads teams in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisor

Locator Duties and Responsibilities:

• Confirm bore path with install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path)
• Perform job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork
• Ensure there are proper clearances to install the product per standards
• Record the depth of the tool head as required

Essential Education and Qualifications:

• Valid Driver’s License
• Valid DOT Health Card

Preferred Skills:

• Class A Driver’s License (CDL)

Physical Demands:

• Must be physically fit to endure the daily activity involved with the job
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
