Job summary

Independent School District 196 is seeking a custodian for an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The position starts ASAP and offers the opportunity to work in a diverse school community with a focus on safety and cleanliness.

Responsibilities include cleaning, minor repairs, grounds upkeep, recycling, and assisting in securing the building. The district provides comprehensive benefits and compensation according to the 2026-27 contract.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Custodial and routine maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and handle varied cleaning tasks.
• Communicate clearly with staff, students and the public.
• Desire to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Good attendance and punctuality required.
• Positive work history and references.

Responsibilities

• Clean building areas and perform minor repairs and routine maintenance.
• Perform grounds maintenance, trash pickup, mow, weed control, snow removal.
• Comply with school recycling program.
• Move and assemble furniture as needed.
• Perform duties in a timely, neat, and efficient manner.
• Assist in securing the building during and at shift end.
• Adjust hours to accommodate early or late programs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
