Job summary

Goodwill Industries Group is seeking a full-time Store Custodian in Hammond, IN, to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming shopping environment. The role reports to the Store Manager and aligns with the Goodwill mission to empower people.

You will perform daily cleaning tasks, manage waste, and address safety hazards while supporting store operations in a retail setting. Requirements include a high school education and a willingness to work daytime shifts.

Qualifications

• Prior custodial or janitorial work preferred.
• Familiarity with cleaning supplies and safety practices.
• Basic mechanical, time management and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow cleaning schedules and safety protocols.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing) to keep the store hygienic and welcoming.
• Empty trash and recycling; ensure proper disposal.
• Keep exterior areas clean and free of debris.
• Respond to spills promptly to prevent safety hazards.
• Follow health and safety guidelines and use appropriate cleaning products.
• Report leaks, broken fixtures, or damaged flooring for repair.
• Identify hazards and participate in safety training.
