Job summary

SSM Health's Saint Louis Eye Clinic is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support ophthalmologists and care teams during patient visits. You will assist with vision testing, diagnostic procedures, patient education, and clinic workflow to ensure a smooth, efficient experience for all ages.

Position emphasizes attention to detail, commitment to high-quality eye care, and collaboration with the care team. Travel to STL Metro Area clinics may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
• One year heath care experience

Responsibilities

• Assists eye care providers in the exam and treatment of patients.
• Initiates documentation of chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and ocular findings.
• May perform testing such as visual acuity, color vision, keratometry, tonometry, and automated perimetry.
• May act as a scribe documenting diagnoses, orders, and patient instructions.
• Assists with minor surgery procedures and laser treatments in the office.
• Inventories and maintains surgical instruments.
• Screens patients and calls for emergency/urgent situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
