Job summary

Baptist Medical Center South in Alabama is seeking an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist to join the ED team, ensuring safe and effective medication use in the region's largest emergency department.

You will lead clinical pharmacy activities, participate in trauma events, and collaborate with residency programs while supporting staff development. Day shift 7 on/7 off (7 am–6 pm) requires a strong focus on patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• PharmD required; residency preferred or 3 years inpatient experience.
• Alabama license current or eligible; obtain within 3 months.
• ACLS/BLS/PALS/NRP certs preferred or pursued after hire.
• Parenteral certification knowledge helpful.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for ER clinical pharmacy activities.
• Antimicrobial, anticoagulation, pharmacokinetic and PN consults.
• Review Sentri 7 monitoring and ED metrics.
• Participate in trauma events, code blue/stroke, sepsis alerts.
• Support staff development and competency in the ER.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist to work with our current team to drive excellence in our clinical pharmacy activities. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medications in the largest emergency department in the region. This pharmacist will be responsible for achieving the goals and objectives of the pharmacy department while fostering staff development and maintaining high standards of pharmaceutical practice in the Emergency Department. Work schedule is Day Shift 7 on/ 7 off -7 am to 6pm.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy required and PharmD degree preferred.
• Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency PGY1 and PGY2 program preferred or a minimum of 3 years inpatient experience.
• Alabama Board of Pharmacy license current, or eligible and must obtained within 3 months of position.
• Alabama Board of Pharmacy controlled substance license current or obtained within 3 months in position.
• BCPS, BCCP or BCEMP upon hire is preferred or working towards attainment of board certification within 1 year of hire date
• ALBOP parenteral certification within 3 months in position- Knowledge of aseptic technique
• ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NRP certification (can also be completed at hire)
• Ability to accurately perform computer order entry duties (Cerner, InsightRX and Omnicell experience helpful)
• Proficient in needed pharmaceutical calculations and the metric system.
• Basic knowledge in pharmacokinetic calculations and parenteral nutrition management
• Evidence of commitment to continuing education, experience in precepting APPE students and PGY1 and PGY2 residents preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide departmental leadership and oversight for all clinical pharmacy activities in the ER
• Antimicrobial, anticoagulation, pharmacokinetic and parenteral nutrition consults
• Review of Sentri 7 monitoring
• Active participation in trauma events, code blue, code stroke, sepsis alerts and other emergent situations
• Support staff development to ensure competency standards are met
• Stay current with pharmaceutical practices and policies
• Collaborate with management to plan, implement, and evaluate new programs and activities
• Promote safe and appropriate medication therapy throughout the department
• Actively participate in pharmacy residency program precepting and research
