Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking a Day Custodian to maintain a clean, safe school environment at EMGE Elementary. You will perform daily cleaning of classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and outdoor areas; manage custodial closets; regulate HVAC as needed; assist with setting up events; and respond to building needs in all weather conditions.

This full-time role requires physical stamina, adherence to schedules, and reliable communication with administrators and staff.

Qualifications

• The custodian should demonstrate the ability to perform the tasks listed.
• Must complete assigned tasks in accordance with established time and quality control guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of building, premises, and entryways, including stairways, sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
• Clean the following assigned areas daily in accordance with specified standards: Classrooms – clean desktops, whiteboards, door windows, and windows to outside; high and low dusting; empty trash and pencil sharpeners; sweep/vacuum, dust mop/wet mop classroom floors.
• Bathrooms – clean toilets, urinals, sinks, partition walls, and mirrors; empty trash; refill soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and sanitary products; sweep and mop restroom floor.
• Hallways – sweep/dust/mop/auto scrub/burnish hallways; clean and polish water fountains.
• Inside responsibilities as dictated by AM or PM shift: Maintain custodial closets as directed; regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems; raise and lower cafeteria tables; lock/unlock doors; body fluid clean-up; change and install light bulbs and pencil sharpeners.
• Outside responsibilities as dictated by AM or PM shift: Raise and lower the United States flag daily; keep the grounds free from trash and litter; keep dumpster area clean and locked; grounds care: mowing and trimming; graffiti removal; snow/ice removal; maintain play areas; wash windows.
• Load/unload the storage of deliveries and supplies; move furniture or equipment within buildings; attend district-required training; assist with building function set-up and clean up; ensure building is secure after events; work in adverse weather; assist in shoveling snow when required.
• Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms; perform other duties as assigned; communicate effectively with administrators, staff, and the community; maintain custodial tools and equipment; report damages or repairs; assist in the cafeteria; perform emergency cleaning services.
