Job summary

The University of Iowa in Iowa City is seeking a Custodian I to perform custodial work across campus facilities under direct supervision.

Responsibilities include cleaning all building areas, vacuuming and floor care, restroom sanitation, restocking supplies, and reporting maintenance needs. The role requires physical stamina and ability to work varying temperatures, with a 7:30AM–4:00PM shift and rotating weekends.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow directions.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
• Experience in physically demanding position and moving up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Experience interacting with customers.
• Willingness to work in environments that vary in temperature (heat/cold) and noise level.
• Ability to use commercial cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs cleaning in all areas of a building.
• Vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing.
• Clean restrooms with a specialized machine.
• Clean glass surfaces, ceilings and walls; ladder up to 12 feet.
• Replace light bulbs and clean fixtures; ladder as required.
• Move furniture and deliver supplies; clean exterior areas.
• Collect trash and maintain exterior surroundings; report breakage and repairs.
