Job summary

Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking a dependable Day Porter to support daily cleanliness, safety, and maintenance across the Lower/Middle School and Upper School campuses. The role covers building operations, restroom and cafeteria areas, outdoor spaces, and failure reporting, with a focus on student and staff safety and a high standard of care.

Responsibilities include opening walkthroughs, timely spills response, trash/recycling management, and assisting with events.

Qualifications

• Prior custodial, porter, facilities, maintenance, landscaping, or related experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and identify work that needs to be completed without waiting for direction.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, safety, organization, and detail.
• Ability to move regularly between LMS and US during the workday.
• Ability to safely use standard custodial tools, equipment, and cleaning products.
• Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and willingness to learn appropriate care practices for rain gardens and the microforest.
• Ability to communicate facility concerns clearly and promptly.
• Reliability, punctuality, professionalism, and sound judgment.
• Ability to work effectively in an active K–12 school environment.
• Ability to successfully complete all background checks and other employment requirements applicable to employees working in a Massachusetts public school.

Responsibilities

• Daily Building Operations – LMS and US: The Day Porter will conduct opening walkthroughs, maintain cleanliness of hallways and shared spaces, respond to spills and safety concerns, and assist with deliveries and setups.
• Restroom Maintenance: Inspect, clean, disinfect, restock supplies, and address odors or issues.
• Cafeteria and Food-Service Areas: Support cleaning and turnover of spaces used for meals and events.
• Microforest – Daily Maintenance: Monitor, water, remove litter, manage weeds, and report issues.
• Nine Rain Gardens – Daily Maintenance: Inspect, remove debris, water, weed, check plant health, and monitor drainage.
• Exterior Grounds and Campus Appearance: Daily walkthroughs, pick up litter, ensure safety, and address hazards.
• Safety and Accountability: Follow safety procedures, store chemicals properly, place warning signage, report hazards, and communicate needs.
• Daily Priorities: Focus on safety, spills, restroom cleanliness, high-traffic areas, cafeteria, and campus walkthroughs.
