EMCOR Government Services, Inc. is seeking a Day Porter for the DOT Headquarters site in Washington, DC. The role involves daily interior cleaning and light exterior maintenance as needed, under a union contract (SEIU Local 32BJ).

Schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, with on-call flexibility for evenings or weekends in case of emergencies. The ideal candidate has at least two years of housekeeping experience in commercial environments, reads English instructions, and follows all

  • Two (2) or more years of housekeeping experience in commercial/industrial settings.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions in English.
  • Knowledge of safe use of cleaning agents and equipment.
  • Follows safety protocols and works under supervision.
  • Must be flexible to work day or night shifts, evenings or weekends on call.

Responsibilities

  • Daily interior cleaning including waste removal, vacuuming, dusting, restroom cleaning and floor care.
  • Potential exterior cleaning and basic maintenance as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks and inventory control.
  • Promptly notify management of spills, safety issues, or needed repairs.
  • Safely operate cleaning tools and chemical agents to protect floors, fixtures and staff.

Job Summary

EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a Day Porter in Washington DC. The Porter conducts housekeeping at the DOT Headquarters site in Washington D.C. This position is covered by the CBA for SEIU Local 32BJ

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Daily interior cleaning of the building including emptying waste receptacles, debris and trash removal, vacuuming/shampooing floors and carpets, dusting and cleaning furniture, cleaning and restocking restrooms, washing walls, polishing, mopping floors, placing down mats/runners in inclement weather, cleaning up spills, cleaning windows and window coverings, etc., in accordance with established procedures and as directed by a Supervisor.
  • May be required to perform exterior building and premises cleaning and basic maintenance, including exterior walls and windows, parking lots and structures, walkways and paths, gardens and lawns, outdoor furnishings, fountains, curbs/gutters, exterior hallways, and stairwells, etc.
  • May be directed to assist with minor maintenance such as replacing batteries for touchless faucets and toilets and plunging toilets.
  • Other assigned duties (depending on the building, facility, and client needs) may include gardening and lawn care, assisting with inventory control and supply ordering, snow removal (including salting/ sanding).
  • Expected to promptly notify management of spills and emergency situations, need for major and minor building/facility repairs, lights that are out or broken, broken equipment and fixtures, damaged structures, ruptured pipes/plumbing, problems with heating/cooling and ventilation and any other observable safety issues/concerns.
  • Expected to properly and safely use and operate related equipment, tools, devices, and chemical/cleaning agents, including mops, vacuums, electric polishing machines, power tools and equipment, and special cleaning solutions to efficiently perform the duties and to avoid harming floors, fixtures, individuals, and themselves.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in housekeeping on Commercial-Industrial building equipment.
  • Be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of housekeeping procedures and technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents in English.
  • Knowledge of safe use of cleaning agents and equipment used to perform job duties.
  • Reliable, thorough, observant, organized, flexible and courteous.
  • Effective listener and team player.
  • Understand written or verbal instructions from the designated supervisor.
  • Practice the necessary safety protocols and procedures.
  • Follows through and carries out work orders.
  • Must be able to communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Must be willing and able to work any day or night shift schedule.
  • Must be willing to work evenings or weekends (on call) in case of an emergency.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and test or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and handle.
  • All of these requirements are necessary for using ladders and stairs, cleaning low areas, high areas, benches, and corners.
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds in order to clean work areas and handle supplies and equipment.
  • Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
