Job summary

Qualifications

  • Previous leadership/mentoring/supervisory experience.

Job description

Position Summary:

he Team Lead provides day-to-day leadership, guidance, and support to a team of Direct Support Providers (DSPs) who provide services to individuals supported by North Star Community Services. The Team Lead serves as a role model for DSP staff and works closely with supervisors to ensure that services are provided safely, respectfully, consistently, and in accordance with each individual's needs, service plan, and North Star Community Services policies.

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Provide day-to-day direction to assigned DSP staff.

  • Assist DSPs with questions, concerns, and situations that arise during their workday.

  • Communicate staff concerns and significant issues to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Help ensure DSPs understand and follow individual service plans, program procedures, and organizational policies.

  • Assist with coordinating daily staff assignments and responsibilities.

  • Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication among DSP staff.

  • Assist new employees with becoming familiar with the program, individuals supported, routines, and workplace expectations.

  • Provide coaching and constructive feedback to DSPs as directed or when appropriate.


Preferred skills, training and qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, or in a related human services field.

  • Familiarity with person-centered planning and person-centered services.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals, families, coworkers, supervisors, and other professionals.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and respond appropriately to changing circumstances.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to complete required documentation accurately and timely.

  • Ability to meet all required background check, training, and employment requirements.

  • Valid driver's license, ability to be covered by agency insurance, and willingness to drive company vehicles

  • Have a reliable vehicle to fulfill responsibilities in absence of agency vehicle

  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience.


Physical Abilities


  • Ability to safely assist clients with moving, such as repositioning clients using mobility aids, and transferring them from wheelchairs.

  • Occasional lifting 75 pounds as needed to assist with transporting clients

  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and using a step ladder. May occasionally assist with the movement of persons when transporting them.

  • Frequent sitting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions, such as data entry and keyboarding

  • In cases where individuals exhibit challenging or aggressive behaviors, they may need to use physical interventions and must have the strength to do so safely.
