Job summary

CARES (Community Assistance Resources and Extended Services, Inc.) seeks a DSP/Driver to transport individuals to and from day programs in New York. You will ensure safety, interact with participants and staff, and maintain pickup/drop-off records throughout the day.

The role requires strong communication skills, reliability, a valid NY driver’s license, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines and providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
• Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
• High school diploma or GED required, Associate's degree preferred.
• 25+ years old
• NY State Driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
• Driving the vehicle in a manner that ensures the safety of all passengers.
• Supervision of individuals up to and including the securing of seat belts
• Reporting any mechanical failures at the end of each run.
• Must be able to meet and interact with employees and parents/guardians in routine situations, which require tact, discretion, and courtesy
• Communicate with a variety of people (e.g. individuals, board staff, parents and/or guardians) for the purpose of providing and/or acquiring information relating to job functions.
• Other related duties as assigned.

DSP/Driver is responsible for picking up individuals from home in the morning and driving them to and from day program. At the end of the day the driver will drive individuals back home. The driver will also be responsible to help throughout the day, including but not limited to interacting and socializing with individuals and driving both individuals and staff on trips. The driver will also be responsible for maintaining a clear record of times individuals are picked up and dropped off. The driver will also be responsible for at least one individual and will have to complete all paperwork pertaining to said individual.
