Job summary

St. Francis Area Schools is seeking a Day Cleaner/Custodian for Saint Francis Middle School (SFMS). The role covers daily cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance duties across classrooms, offices, restrooms and common areas.

Experience with boiler operations is required for custodian placement. Eligible full-time employees receive medical/dental insurance, vacation and sick leave, life insurance, and retirement benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Boiler license is required for Custodian placement.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; push/pull equipment; lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to communicate positively with staff, families and the public.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, entrances and hallways.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, strip, finish and maintain floors as assigned.
• Empty trash and recycling and replace liners.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, fixtures, drinking fountains and high-touch surfaces.
• Inspect areas and report cleaning, safety or maintenance concerns.
• Submit work-order needs through district procedures.
• Assist with building security checks and with snow/ice removal.
• Set up and take down tables, chairs and equipment for activities and events.
• Respond to spills and emergencies during the workday.
• Perform other custodial duties as assigned.

Location: Saint Francis Middle School (SFMS)

Salary: Per the Custodian Work Agreement : Cleaner, $18.51- $20.42 per hour; or Custodian (B21), $20.51- $22.42 per hour for applicants with the required boiler license. Starting pay within the applicable range may reflect credit for prior work experience.

• Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, entrances, hallways, and other assigned spaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, strip, finish, and maintain floors as assigned.
• Empty trash and recycling and replace liners.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, fixtures, drinking fountains, and high-touch surfaces.
• Maintain adequate custodial supplies within assigned areas.
• Inspect assigned areas and identify cleaning, safety, or maintenance concerns.
• Submit or report work-order needs through established District procedures.
• Assist with building security, including checking doors, windows, and other assigned areas.
• Set up and take down tables, chairs, furniture, and equipment for school activities, events and lunch.
• Assist with snow and ice removal, including sidewalks, entrances, and other assigned areas.
• Perform boiler checks when assigned and properly licensed.
• Assist other custodial staff and provide building coverage when directed.
• Respond to spills, emergencies, safety concerns, and other custodial needs during the workday.
• Perform summer cleaning and other seasonal custodial work.
• Follow District safety procedures, policies, work rules, and supervisor directives.
• Perform other custodial duties consistent with the assigned classification.

Positions 1,020 hours or more per year are benefit eligible
