As a Camp Counselor, you'll thrive in a lively, interactive setting, engaging in camp songs, skits, and answering kids' questions. You'll help develop creative curricula, lead art projects, organize games, and teach social skills and sportsmanship. Job Summary:

The Camp Counselor plans, leads, and coordinates programs for children in small groups, ensuring their safety and promoting their growth and skill development based on YMCA values of caring, equity, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and organize campers, applying social-emotional learning and youth development principles to foster respectful and empowering relationships.
  • Develop and execute engaging activities, including crafts, nature exploration, songs, games, swimming, archery, canoeing, and family events.
  • Maintain health and safety standards, provide first aid, respond to emergencies, and ensure campers' well-being.
  • Uphold safety protocols, maintain accurate records, and supervise transportation and off-site activities.
  • Model positive behavior, uphold safety and security procedures, and promote cleanliness and organization.
  • Communicate effectively with families and community members, representing the camp professionally.

Relationships:

This role reports to the Program Director and interacts regularly with staff, campers, volunteers, and families from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications:

  • First Aid & CPR/AED certification (can be obtained upon hire)
  • Experience or education in youth programs, recreation, or related fields
  • Ability to lead, organize, and implement activities for all ages
  • Strong teamwork, organizational, and communication skills
  • Minimum age of 18 years

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to participate in physical activities and handle outdoor conditions, including carrying loads up to 50 pounds and traversing uneven terrain
  • Work in various weather conditions and operate safety equipment
  • Perform physical tasks including reaching, bending, and supporting children in activities
